" I’m an absolute fan of good music,in fact I listen to all music – Apala inclusive,I just might not listen a second time if it ain’t Rap. Funny enough,it’s undeniable that every time ‘Good Music’ is mentioned, something about the Rap genre pops into your head. Thanks to Yeezy!.
Rap is the only genre that enforces you to build yourself, most punchlines are structured in a way that requires you to exercise your knowledge on other subjects. Until Plies said “I’m talking the real Noriega” on the track ‘Welcome To My Hood’ and I heard one other rap artist mention him on another track,I never knew there was a Nigga called Noriega. When Pusha-T said “Watch my predecessor fall like the sun going down (God!)
It’s sunset, this is Sun Tzu (War!)”,that line would make less sense except you know Sun Tzu wrote the all time Best-Seller Art of War.
Rap requires you to have an heightened sense of humor-A common sense that dances.
I laughed when a tweep said M.I and IcePrince were doing bubble gum raps.
I couldn’t argue it tho,I’m a total fan of M and even an absolute fan of Wayne but I v got to be sincere on this one…
Eventually, you become the rapper you are scheming after, from the days of Illegal Music 1,I could swear Wayne had to be M’s core mentor. M’s debut album ‘Talk About It’ was totally dope, the fusion of chorus and verses was nothing like we had ever seen in Africa, hence his becoming Africa’s Rap Icon. A while after Wayne got award of Best Rapper at the VMA,Nigga just stopped delivering what we loved him for. I LMAO when @godamongstmen1 tweeted “Tryna use logic to decipher current rap lyrics…I shoulda gave up when Weezy said F was for phenomenal”
Don’t get it twisted,Wayne is still a Rap god and would probably be till he retires(No wonder The Game famzed him on the intro of his track Halleluyah off the Jesus Piece Album “And I know Weezy Personally”),you know stars get star-struck too. When M dropped M.I 2,we weren’t disappointed but real hip hop heads couldn’t deny it didn’t meet their expectation of the acclaimed Africa’s Rap Icon. This has nothing to do with sales,I know a lot of you be thinking of how he broke record of overall online sales of albums in Nigeria, how his marketer told him he just did a milli in the East and all that, this article is all about the content of the art and not the sales made from the art. Your album sales is a major function of good management, unrelenting promotion and a little about the album’s content, play a stupid song on radio all the time and soon, you are gonna get the people singing to it.
You are wondering why Mode 9 always got the Lyricist On The Roll award at the Headies from inception of the awards until 2012 when Vector got it,simply because the award is all about content of the music in question,at least the Rap section of the awards got that.
Same with the Nigga VEC,scheming after H.O.V. I know @yomyom_ gon’ kill me for this but lemme finish – Just like H.O.V,the nigga would probably stay relevant for a long time if he keeps to that style but how long till we start asking for the real him. Eventually,we’ll get tired of the Nigerian H.O.V and we would wanna hear our Nigerian VEC. But I have got to give it to him,he is one of the few Nigerian rappers(if not the only) that drops fresh bars on every freestyle he features in,dope delivery plus madt wordplay(Y’all remember “Sauce is a Beast,Vec is an Animal. Look where we at now,you have seen zoo *Sinzu*” Oh! You remember too).
I’m just gonna say a little about Saucekid and move on,Nigga used to do real hip hop until he got all about the money and went commercial.
Good for him tho,now he is “Making Revenues from Avenues he never Knew”. Undeniably, dude still got it-Dope flows once in a while.
On Jay-Z,hmnnnn…I could idolize this guy on a whole article and not get tired, you can skip to the next paragraph when you start to get bored,Lol.
11 NUMBER 1 ALBUMS IN A ROW!!! No be beans na!,making him the solo artist with the most Number 1 albums beating Elvis Presley’s record. That’s one guy we all love to hate and hate to love.
When Obama was asked on E! who he preferred between Jay-Z and Kanye, you know who he picked already.
I got my iPod in the start of 2010 and it came with Jay-Z’s latest album,The BluePrint III . At the time,I wasn’t really a fan of Jigga so I skipped the tracks as they came on. My brother @SLYpholabi always told me how lyrically inclined Jay-Z was and how every track on that album was a number 1 record,I turned deaf ears still.
Not until I heard he made $42Million that year and the next person on Forbes’ list,Diddy made $20Million-What a difference! That was I thought too. I was so sure he had to be doing something really right to have made that much money and that much difference too,so I went back to my iPod,listened to his album, looked up google for his tracks and listened to more. I admire that he has been able to keep himself out of negative publicity. He is probably your Best rapper’s Favorite rapper. #NuffSaid
I totally agreed when Eminem said “Music is a representation of self,we just explain it”. The acceptance of it is a function of how well the story is told and the magnitude of passion expended in the explanation.
I couldn’t agree less when @godamongstmen1 tweeted “When lyricism became an afterthought is when Hip hop started its decline. The art is about story telling, not fairy tales.”
Poetry is another part of story telling that is so beautiful and when fused with lyricism, becomes magical. The only rap artist that takes total advantage of that is Wale, one of the dopest in the game. Nothing on Rozay,I’m sorry!
Everything here is a representation of my opinion and might not necessarily correlate with yours, you know what they say – different folks, different strokes. This wasn’t intended at beefing anyone,I’m just playing around.

I’m not a rap artist and I have no intentions. I’m just a fan of good music and a blogger with unlimited internet access.
Finally, everyone deserves to listen to good music as hot as they drop. So here is a website link to download Deluxe Editions(mostly) of American mixtapes and albums as soon as they drop(Sometimes, even before they drop. I had listened to Jesus Piece, the album about 50 times before its official premiere,Lol)—- www.dopehood.com
You will be needing a laptop and a software for unzipping the files. The album/mixtape will be downloaded as a piece and requires unzipping to extract the tracks and the album’s artwork. You can holla if you need the software. #ThankMeLater =)) Frosh Guyz!!!"
