A suspect has been arrested for allegedly stealing a piece of the wrecked Porsche from the car crash that killed Paul Walker on Nov. 30
New details continue to emerge about the car accident that killed Paul Walker and pal Roger Rodas on Saturday, Nov. 30. The latest development, however, is related not to the crash itself but to an alleged theft after the fact. According to a police report from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, a suspect has been arrested for allegedly stealing a piece of Rodas' wrecked Porsche Carrera GT.
The report states that the totaled car was loaded onto a tow truck to be "transported to the impound yard for further investigation." En route, the driver stopped at a red light, and a witness saw a man in a vehicle behind the truck get out of his car and take a piece of the Porsche.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's detectives identified the suspect as Jameson Witty, 18, of Tujunga, Calif. Witty was taken into custody at his home on Dec. 5, and the stolen part -- described in the report as a "red, T-top roof panel to the wrecked 2005 Porsche Carrera GT -- was recovered at a different residence in Canyon Country, Calif.
According to the report, a second suspect has been identified by officials but is outside the state of California; he's currently making arrangements to surrender himself. Witty, meanwhile, was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Station with bail set at $20,000.
"Sheriff's detectives will meet with the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's for consideration of filing criminal charges of felony Grand Theft...and Tampering with Evidence...against both suspects," the report states. "The investigation of the traffic collision is ongoing."
