‘The Originals’ Recap: Sophie’s Desperate Plan Ends In A Major Death
I hope you had your Kleenex handy, because this week’s ‘Originals’ was a doozy!
The Originals delivered its biggest — not to mention most devastating — episode yet Jan. 21, revealing that a “sinister” enemy is already in our midst, while claiming the life of a fan-favorite character. Honestly, this episode felt like a season finale, even more so than last week’s episode.
R.I.P., Tiny Adorable Witch
OK, let’s start with the big death. In an attempt to complete the Harvest and save her ‘friends’ from certain destruction, Davina (Danielle Campbell) voluntarily allowed Sophie (Daniella Pineda) to slit her throat, but like most of Sophie’s plans, things did not tend well. Not only did zero of the sacrificed witches come back to life, including Sophie’s niece, but the Big Easy’s most clueless spell caster has no idea who took on their powers.
Needless to say, Marcel ( Charles Michael Davis) took Davina’s apparent death worse than anyone else, flying off in a crazy rage. The surprising turn, however, came when Klaus ( Joseph Morgan) followed him to offer some friendly compassion — and a hug. Yes, the same Klaus that has killed so many beloved characters during his time on The CW actually showed a glimmer of human emotion. I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it with my own two eyes.
As for who took on the witches’ powers, that answer was saved until the episode’s final moments, and for good reason. It turns out “Sabine” isn’t who she claims to be; she’s actually the infamous Celeste DuBois, which explains why Sophie wasn’t able to consecrate her bones earlier in the hour!
#Haylijah’s Close Encounter
Speaking of Celeste, her ex-boyfriend shared a pretty steamy scene with his brother’s werewolf baby mama this week. After Hayley ( Phoebe Tonkin) came clean about helping Sophie dig up Celeste’s remains, I was sure Elijah ( Daniel Gillies) would fly off the handle — until Klaus reminded us that his well-groomed bro is a master of forgiveness.
Not only is he not completely furious with Hayley for forcing him to break his promise to Celeste, but Elijah came closer to kissing Hayley than ever! Like, closer than that time they almost kissed in the pool, and that other time they almost kissed when he helped her slip in (and out) of her casket girl dress.
You don’t need me to tell you this, but Daniel and Phoebe’s chemistry is off the damn charts, and I’m loving how slowly they’re building this whole Elijah/Hayley dynamic.
FroshDudes, do you think Davina is really dead for good? Were you shocked by the Sabine/Celeste twist? And how badly do you just want Elijah and Hayley to bone?!
